WE JOURNEYED TO MY HOMELAND… KINDA

September 5, 2017 Eric Leave a Comment

Yesterday we had ourselves another cool adventure.  We went to one of my favorite places, IKEA.  My Swedish heritage is strong and I belong there among my people with all of the allen wrenches and meatballs anybody could want.  I seriously do like going here.  the coffee is great and the food is so affordable.  it is a real treat whenever we get to go, plus the displays are so inspiring and fun to walk through.  We get a lot of stuff at IKEA.  The closet units in the nursery are from there.  our furniture, our art, our glassware… there is not one aspect of our home that does not have at least some IKEA elements to it.

I should do a post on the top five or  ten things to buy at IKEA one of these days.  Let me know what you think about that and I might do it sooner rather than later.  For now, though.  we went under the flimsy pretext pf securing new place mats.  We really don’t need a lot of valid reasons to go spend some time and money at this amusement park like retail center.  We wanted to actually go to Bite of Oregon, but decided against it because we didn’t want to take the babies outdoors for so long in the heat.  We also missed out on the State Fair for the same reason, which really bums us out.  Only in our minds would IKEA be considered a suitable replacement attraction, but you know what?  We went.  We took the twins.  And we had a blast.  We also got some cool stuff, including a couple of toys we just couldn’t resist.

Taking Gwendolyn and Lawson to IKEA was made super easy because we had these hammocks for the shopping cart to carry them in.  The hammocks are super easy to install and they really work.  It was great not having to break out the stroller.  We have also used them on grocery trips and they work like a charm.  The twins are always popular in public.  People stop us all the time to look at them and ask us questions.  The bigger stars this time were the hammocks the twins were resting in.  People wanted to know if they could buy them there, but we got them on Amazon.

Gwendolyn and Lawson were extra adorable and so well behaved that many people approached us to soak up their amazing cuteness, but overwhelming numbers of them really wanted to know more about the hammocks.  I don’t know if it’s because the IKEA customers are already predisposed to products with this type of functionality, or if this is just really that cool of a thing.  Some people said they had seen it, but weren’t sure how practical it is and their we were as proof.  One of the women who approached us hilariously told us she hopes we enjoy our shopping experience.  She didn’t work there, but she must have some retail experience.  Anyway, we did.  They made the whole shopping experience ridiculously easy.

I really enjoyed taking the twins to one of my favorite places to shop.  It was very positive.  And it was a big first moment for us because we changed the twins in a family room for the first time.  We got there early so they had breakfast.  I wanted to stay and get some meatballs when we were all done, but we had to get back home for the next feeding.  I know for a fact, though that there is a DVD shelving unit with our name on it and I will certainly get my fix of delicious Swedish meatballs in no time.

Coming up soon is the Polish Festival in Portland, which is a truly cultural experience we attend every year.  I really can’t wait to introduce the twins to that.
